What length does my hair need to be for extensions?

Your hair must be at least 3 inches in length to hold extensions properly. If it is quite short you should be prepared for the possibility of odd braids or extensions to slip, especially along the nape of your neck where hair is often shorter and thinner. It is possible to attach to shorter hair, though.
          How long will extensions last?

Braids, synthetic dreads and loose extensions will last roughly 2 - 3 months depending on your hair type and length. However this can vary, as some people may find their hair grows much faster due to the weight of any synthetic hair added.

Extensions can feel quite tight to start with, and sometimes a little sore and itchy, but they will soon loosen up as your hair grows out and your head gets used to the change.

What hair types are suitable for extensions?

Most hair types are suitable for extensions. If you have very fine hair, or it has thinned as a result of bleaching we recommend lightweight extensions (such as wool dreads), alternatively thinner, micro-braids may be more suitable to reduce the risk of braids slipping, please enquire for an accurate quote.

If you suffer from Migraines, Epilepsy, neck problems or skin conditions of the scalp some styles may be unsuitable due to the weight. Synthetic (handmade) dreads and more lightweight extensions (wool) would also be suitable in this case.

My head is itchy, can I wash my hair with extensions in?

Yes. It's important when washing with products to ensure no residue is left on your scalp, as this can cause more itching. You must dilute your shampoo with water so it's less likely to leave residue on your scalp. Witch Hazel gel and Tea Tree treatments are highly recommended as they ease itching of the skin. Use a little on a cotton ball and run over your scalp to cleanse.
You shouldn't want to wash your hair everytime you shower or have a bath, so it is also a good idea to invest in a shower cap.

Braids and dreads however will be perfectly fine if you don't wash them. In most cases your head will begin to settle after the first 2-3 weeks and become less itchy. If you choose to use shampoo you will only need to wash your hair every two weeks or so, you can also use your normal shampoo if you dilute it first.

You must make sure you dry your extensions well once they've been washed, if you have synthetic (dreads, braids, fibre hair) make sure you don't focus your hairdryer's heat in one place for too long. Dreads and braids can drip for a while after washing so be prepared to spend time drying after washing!

How do I look after my extensions?

Regular maintenance visits will maximise the life-span of natural hair type extensions. In such visits we will re-tighten 2-4 rows of extensions at a time, meaning you can keep the extensions for much longer than usual. Dreads can usually be left to their own devices until the whole lot need to be redone, though you can have the parting and hairline retightened to tidy them up a bit in between installs.

Be wary of tying your hair too tight into ponytails, or putting it up too often, as this can cause slippage and result in extensions falling out.

If you have loose extensions which are attached at the root, make sure you use a soft bristle brush and support your hair whilst brushing to ensure the bonds are not ripped apart.

It is a good idea to wrap the extensions up while you sleep (for example, by wearing a bandana), or you may wish to switch to satin pillowcases.

I want my extensions for a certain date, will you be able to do them?

I work on an appointments basis, so it's best you book early to avoid disappointment. Appointments can be made by phone or email only. In some cases you may be required to make an appointment for a consultation beforehand, in order to leave a deposit and choose colours.

How long will they take to put in?

Certain styles will take longer than others, and due to different hair types each person is individual.

A full head of standard braids will usually take around 4-6 hours, whereas a head of double-ended synthetic dreads will take between 1-1.5hours.

Do I need to supply my own synthetic hair or dreads?

No, I order my stock. If you require a certain colour or material I do not have in stock, feel free to ask, and I can make an order on you're behalf.

If you already have synthetic dreads or other materials you would like in your hair, I will be happy to use them and reduce the overall cost accordingly.

Can I get a refund if I'm not happy?

I don't offer refunds. I cannot be held responsible if extensions are not looked after properly, or you decide you just don't like you're new style. I cannot restock hair due to health and safety issues.

Before I begin any work I'll conduct a short 'consultation' to ensure you are completely certain about the style you have chosen.

I'm happy to fix small problems (individual braids slipping or falling out) so feel free to contact me should this be the case.
